The first MBA class enrolled in 1996, so 2017 marks something of a milestone for us: this is our 21st year, our coming of age.  The activities planned over the coming year will celebrate the students, the faculty, the staff, the alumni, and the activities that have taken place over the last 21 years and hopefully in many, many more years to come.

1996 was the year of the Atlanta Olympic Games, Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting (the original), and the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue. It was also the year in which Oxford’s first class of MBA students matriculated, pursuing their studies in the unlikely setting of the Radcliffe Infirmary, which was then still a fully operational hospital.

Saïd Business School was formally established that year with a generous founding donation of £23 million from businessman and philanthropist Wafic Saïd, although the monumental Park End Street building was not completed until 2001.
Entrepreneurship was an early focus, with the annual Silicon Valley Comes to Oxford event initiated in 2000 and the Oxford Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship launched in 2002 and 2003 respectively. But the scope of the School has expanded exponentially over the past 21 years, embracing a range of transformational degree and executive education programmes and creating a global community in which no single viewpoint or geography is dominant. Its academic research agenda generates powerful ideas which address major topics at the interface of public policy, economic prosperity, international development and social equality.

Recent innovations have included the Oxford 1+1 MBA, the  GOTO learning platform, and the opportunity to learn and collaborate with colleagues at universities across the world as the newest member of the Global Network for Advanced Management. Oxford Saïd aims to kick-start its next 21 years (and more) with the opening of The Foundry entrepreneurial hub in the summer. Look out for this and many more exciting events and activities that are planned to take place throughout the year.
